CITY HUNTER
October 1993 : Graphics, Program and Music - sunteam_paul
City Hunter was one of my favourite mangas when I was a teenager. I collected every Japanese volume and despite the fact I couldn't read it, I still found it enjoyable and very funny thanks to the visual nature of the humour. My brother managed to get hold of a copy of a City Hunter movie (called quite poorly in Japlish 'A Mugnam of Love's Destination') and I bought the soundtrack and along with a City Hunter Mook (magazine/book) I had all I needed to create this demo in homage to the series. Although this was sent to Five Star Software (the PD company we dealt with back then) I don't think it ever appeared on their list, so this is the only place to see it.

Not scared of pushing other products, an advert for Manga World II starts things off.

This title sequence was replicated as faithfully as I could from the anime, with full screen animation of light flashing across the face, followed by the appearance of the logo. I never could cover up the fact that is slowed down a little. |

Kaori looks a little different here - this was taken from the Mook, while most other pictures came direct from the anime. |

Now this was going to be a lot more of a feature. After drawing the background (the view from the roof of Ryo's building) I had intended to animate Ryo's 'Mokkori' exercises. I remember drawing several, if not all the frames, although I am unable to locate them now. I think it was dropped because of disk space. |

I added the bag over the head in this picture as I was never happy about the face (which is shown at the bottom of this page). |

I got a lot of satisfaction from doing these full screen animations. You just didn't see this kind of thing much in those days. The gun shot was sampled straight from the anime and sounds great. |

UNUSED ART
As mentioned, this picture of Ryo was altered by putting a bag over his head. I could never get the face right so I decided to cover it up completely. To be honest, this isn't that bad and I wish I'd kept it now. |

The following is a mini City Hunter animation I made very early on. It was only my third attempt at something in AMOS and was never finished properly. It looks very rough as I was copying frames from the manga and kept the hand drawn style. This was before Sunteam existed and everything I did came under the heading of 'Mai'.
